Auto Body and Collision Repair Inspection

A proper auto body or collision repair on today’s modern vehicles requires a thorough inspection of the damages and research on the recommended repair procedures by the vehicle’s manufacturer. Many times, the initial inspection may necessitate a diagnostic scan of the vehicle’s computer modules to identify any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC)
activated during the auto accident.

This initial process allows us to create a repair plan, or “blueprint”, to follow during the repair process.

If your insurance company has already written an initial estimate. No problem. Just
bring it in and we will be happy to review it for accuracy and recommend any additional
parts or procedures necessary for a proper repair.

Please call us to make your inspection appointment.

Auto Body Repair

Disassembly & Body Collision Repair

The first step in the auto body collision repair process is the disassembly of the damaged area. This is to inspect for additional damages not visible during the initial inspection.

If necessary, we will also electronically measure the body structure of your vehicle. Additionally we will document any structural or frame misalignment.

Collision Repair and Hidden Damages

We will document the damages and if additional damages are found they will be noted. The next step is to promptly report them to you and your insurance company for repair approval.

Our trained technicians will correct any necessary structural misalignment. Furthermore, when all of the auto collision repair is approved we’ll:

  • replace the necessary parts
  • perform the metal finishing necessary
  • and prepare your vehicle for paint.

Auto Body Painting

Collision repair requires the understanding of  today’s brilliant paint currently used on modern vehicles. These advanced paints require exact knowledge about how to duplicate their beautiful finish.

In order to duplicate the original factory finish we rely on Axalta Cromax Pro. It is a technologically advanced, environmentally friendly, product that is designed to accomplish that perfect match .

You Choose Your Shop

You get to choose the collision repair facility to properly repair your vehicle.

At Downtown Collision Center, we don’t confuse who our customer is. Our responsibility and commitment is 100% to the customer.

We are ready to serve you, not the insurance company.

These requirements are contained in section 2695.8(e) of the Fair Claims Settlement Practices Regulations:

(CLICK ON THE + SIGN BELOW TO EXPAND EACH SEGMENT)

No insurer shall
  1. Require that an automobile be repaired at a specific repair shop; or,
  2. Direct, suggest, or recommend that an automobile be repaired at a specific repair shop, unless,
  3. a. such referral is expressly requested by the claimant;

    b. or the claimant has been informed in writing of the right to select the repair facility; and,

    c. the insurer that elects to repair a vehicle or directs, suggests, or recommends that a specific repair shop be used, shall cause the damaged vehicle to be restored to its condition prior to the loss at no additional cost to the claimant other than as stated in the policy or as otherwise allowed by these regulations.

  4. Require a claimant to travel an unreasonable distance either to inspect a replacement automobile, to conduct an inspection of the vehicle, to obtain a repair estimate or to have the automobile repaired at a specific repair shop.”

Under California Insurance Code §758.5 an insurance company cannot require that an automobile be repaired at a specific repair shop. However, an insurance company can recommend that an automobile be repaired at a specific repair shop under the following conditions outlined by law:

  • The consumer specifically requests a recommendation from the insurance company to a repair shop.
  • The consumer has been informed in writing of the right to select a repair shop of his or her choice.
  • If the consumer agrees to use the recommended repair shop, the insurance company must restore the damaged vehicle to its condition prior to the accident or loss with no additional cost other than as stated in the policy or as otherwise allowed by law.
  • If the company makes an oral recommendation to a repair shop, and it is accepted by the consumer, then the company must follow the oral recommendation with the prescribed written notice within five calendar days as specified by law.

  • If the vehicle is repaired at a shop chosen by the consumer, the insurance company must pay the reasonable costs to repair the vehicle in a workmanlike manner. The insurance company is prohibited from limiting or discounting reasonable repair costs based on charges that would have occurred if the vehicle had been repaired at the company’s recommended repair shop. Also, the insurance company must stand behind the repairs of the recommended shop if the vehicle is not repaired properly.
